About Notre Dame Hospice
At Notre Dame Hospice we focus on enriching lives. Our hospice care is not focused on the disease, but on pain control and symptom management. Our care is also focused on offering emotional and spiritual support. We work with our patients, caregivers and families to enhance the quality of the time that remains.
To us, hospice is about providing the care beyond the cure so individuals can live more fully in comfort, peace and in control.
Notre Dame Hospice is a ministry of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and is the only Catholic nonprofit hospice in the Greater New Orleans Area. Our mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care and support services in a Christian environment. We respect the uniqueness of each person and promote and enhance the quality of life working to preserve dignity in life, illness and death.
At Notre Dame Hospice we help people facing advanced illness live more fully. Our focus is on the individual, making sure they live with advancing illness in their own way. We find out what’s important, and use this as our guide. We work to make the journey of hospice a time of joy, grace, love, and a time of living.
Services provided by Notre Dame Hospice include:
- Hospice Care
At Notre Dame Hospice we focus on enriching lives and work with our patients, caregivers and families to promote and enhance the quality of the time that remains. Our hospice care is not focused on the disease but on pain control and symptom management. Our care is also focused on more than medical needs. We are there to offer emotional and spiritual support.
- Routine Home Care
Notre Dame sees the majority of their patients in a home-setting where we provide Routine Home Care. A “home-setting” includes a private home, apartment, assisted living facility or skilled nursing home. Patients receiving routine home-care have a hospice team led by a Registered Nurse Case Manager (RNCM).
- Respite Care
Respite care is available to hospice patients and their families. Respite care provides a break for the primary family caregiver. Respite is covered by Medicare, MediCAL and private insurance so the service is in reach of most families. Respite Care is provided in an inpatient facility.
- In-Patient Hospice Care
Certain hospice patients meets Medicare standards for in-patient hospice services. These hospice services can be offered through our beautiful Chateau de Notre Dame and Wynhoven Healthcare facilities as well as at other facilities throughout the area.
- Continuous Home Care
For those patients who wish to remain at home during brief periods of crisis, Notre Dame Hospice is able to provide Continuous Home Care. During Continuous Home Care, a member of the Notre Dame Hospice nursing staff is present with the patient and caregiver in the home-setting for a minimum of 8 hours followed by consecutive 8 hour periods for as long as deemed necessary by hospice staff.
- Ambassadors Program
Notre Dame Hospice also has a special person-to-person Ambassadors Program. The Ambassadors help increase the awareness and understanding of hospice services, so that more people take advantage of this important end of life care service. Notre Dame Hospice is always looking for people who may be interested in the Ambassadors Program.
Advancing illness touches many lives from the patient to family to friends. Notre Dame Hospice through their Bereavement Services provide support for those who have lost a loved one by helping them adjust and start the healing process.
